Corn AKA

CORN.
AKA

The commodity we all love...
and probably eat everyday
...whether we like it or not.

The government has subsidized the production of corn, making it cheaper to make, more profitable to grow, and more available for items in your grocery store and for your food's food.

Lets go back to the MOOs,...cows.  What's the main part of their diet?
You guess it! CORN.

These animals, through evolution, have been eating a diet of mostly grass. So what happens when you introduce corn into the mix?
Well, for an animal with 3 stomachs...it means a few things. It means that a high corn diet...might develop larger mutant strains of the bugs (e-coli) cow's stomach acids can usually fight off.

And then we get e-coli into the food system.
And people get sick.
And the government attempts to remedy the situation.
And the corporations which survive off of the use of corn fight back.
And the government  loses and becomes powerless.

And we get e-coli in our mass produced meat and poultry products.

Yum.

MOO.

Milk...something that I was brought up on.
A glass of milk every night for dinner.

In fact, I bet most of us remember thinking about all of the wonderful things milk can do for our body.

Milk, does a body good...?

There have been some recent speculations about the health and nutrition milk can really provide...
This link takes you to all the pros and cons of being a milk drinker:
http://forahealthyfuture.com/nutrition/is-milk-bad-for-you/

It basically outlines the positive aspects to milk:
1. proteins
2. vitamin D ( which is ironic, since vitamin D doesn't occur naturally in milk, its an additive)
3. calcium

And the negative:
1. high in saturated fats (aka calories, and higher cholesterol levels)
2. pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones
3. lactose intolerance

When you look at the bigger picture, milk is a great way to get the nutrients you should be getting, but the bottom line is, you can get those nutrients in many other ways...that are a lot less fattening...

MOO.

The 'Zero Trans Fat!' BS

Let's take a little trip back to 1902.
It was a beautiful night. Hydrogen and liquid vegetable oil were off to a great start for their first date! Eventually, things got a little heated...and shabam! they had a little baby know by the name of Trans Fat.

Now, lets fast-forward to 1990.  Its the early nineties, and corporate America as adopted the Trans Fat baby and turning it into a fat monster...
1.  as a cheap oil it is used to increase the shelf life of many American favorites: popcorn, cookies, crackers.
2.  and it adds a delicious flavor to all of our fast foods, because it can be used repeatedly to fry those tasty french fries.

But wait! The FDA has established 2 things.
1. that heart disease is the #1 killer in America
and 2. Trans fats not only increase the levels of unhealthy cholesterol but ALSO decrease the levels of good cholesterol (HDL).

Finally, lets jump to 2006:
The FDA has finally implemented the label requirement for Trans Fats! (Hurrah!)
But unfortunatelly,  has neglected to tell Americans that they are allowing companies to claim ZERO TRANS FAT...even when their is a small amount of Trans Fat present.

Moral of the Story?
Hydrogen and liquid vegetable oil were not meant to be together in your diet and maybe start reading the labels a little more closely.
